3 Days Taiyuan Pingyao Brief Tour

Full Itinerary Day by day

Day 1 Taiyuan Arrival - Pingyiao (L)

According to your schedule, our local guide will meet you at the airport or railway station in Taiyuan city and take you to Pingyao Ancient City.

On the way to Pingyao, first visit Jinci Temple – the top historic site in Taiiyuan. It was firstly built to commemorate Tang Shuyu, the founder of Jin State (1033 B.C. - 376 B.C.) and his mother and then became an imperial garden where religious rites and sporting contests were held. Stepping into this sprawling complex, you will admire the charming natural landscape as well as historical relics like featured architectures, elegant murals and colored sculptures. Sacred Mother Hall is the highlight of whole temple, featuring in elegantly-decorated pillars. Besides this building, you can get awed by the Zhou Cypress which has been growing at an angle of about 30 degrees for the last 900 years (now supported by a tree next to it).

Then move on to Qiao's Family Compound, which is used to be the house of a famous local financier during the Qing Dynasty. Built in 1756, this well-preserved compound shows you how the traditional North China Folk house was like in the past.

After arriving in Pingyao, check in at your hotel and enjoy the rest of the day.

Day 2 Pingyao (B, L)

After breakfast, your guide will pick you up to start Pingyao Ancient City exploration. As one of the best-preserved ancient cities in China, Pingyao Ancient City is listed as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site because of its brilliant cultural magnificence. With a history over 2700 years, Pingyao Ancient City still keeps its intact charm: ancient city walls, elegant courtyards, scattered temples, all reflecting the urban planning style between 1368 and 1911 during the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Your tour starts from the Ancient City Wall of Pingyao, where you can have a panorama view of the layout of this town. Then you will move on to the Rishengchang Former Bank, which shows you the original bank system in the past. Next, stroll on the traditional Ming and Qing Street, a cobbled road with old buildings on either side. It's much like tracing back to the former bustle bazaar in the old days. Later, visit the Temple of City God to appreciate the wonderful wood carvings, paintings and sculptures in the old temple.

After Pingyao Ancient City exploration, drive about 15 minutes to visit Shuanglin Temple, where you will be impressed by its large number of clay figures and wooden sculptures of various gods, goddesses and saints.

Return to your hotel after Shuanglin Temple visit.

Optional activity:　Enjoy the excellent drama show of Another Glance at Pingyao (19:00~20:30) which presents local life, prosperity and recession of Pingyao during Qing dynasty vividly.

Day 3 Pingyao (B, L)

Today is free for you until your guide and driver escort you to catch your flight/train to next destination. Your Taiyuan Pingyao Tour ends.

1. This price is for one person, based on a group of 2 adults sharing one standard double-bed room in 4-star hotel and traveling with our private tour in low seasons.
2. This price is subject to change according your traveling season, group size, hotel class, change of activities in your itinerary and possible fluctuation of currency exchange rate. If you want a lower price, you can get more people to join you, or use economy class hotels.
3. This price is only valid to March 31, 2023.
4. Reference exchange rate of USD 1=RMB 6.85. The final quote is based on current exchange rate. It may change according to the currency fluctuation, while the RMB quotation will be remained the same.

There will be some meals excluded in your itinerary as you like, and your private guide will be delighted to give you some suggestions and take you to the local restaurants to taste like Beijing Roast Duck, Xian Dumpling Dinner, Sichuan Hotpot, etc., if you are interested in local food tasting.

Hi Leo,

This is a very short customised arrangement during which the China border is not fully opened yet.

China Discovery charges a premium though, but it delivered without fail.

The VOA is very new to even the custom officers who were on duty when I cleared the immigration check at Shenzhen as well as the HK side. I must say that the agent did his professional service by always on the call to allow on-site changes of my arrival time because immigration clearance was so unpredictable. I can be assured that someone is just outside the arrival hall to pick me up and, I could tell the immigration officer that my local contact person is just waiting outside to pick me once I am cleared with this new procedure.

It is always safer to have a local contact to guide you and make arrangements for your local transfer when language ( Cantonese instead of Mandarin) is a problem in China .
