Located in the bordering areas of the Sichuan northwest highland and Sichuan basin, Chengdu has a subtropical monsoon climate, characterized by its early spring, hot summer, cool autumn and warm winter. The annual average temperature is 16 ℃ / 61 ℉ and the annual rainfall is about 1000mm. It's cloudy and humid always and short of sunny days. Another remarkable feature of Chengdu climate is its high humidity. Therefore, although the temperature in summer is not high (the maximum temperature is generally no more than 35 ℃ / 95 ℉), it is sultry; in winter, the temperature is above 5 ℃ / 41 ℉ on average, but because of the overcast days, it is very cold. The rainfall in Chengdu is concentrated in July and August, with little rain in winter and spring and it barely snows.
