China High Speed Rail 2023/2024

High-speed rail in China refers to any train service with an average speed of 200 km/h or higher. Centered in Beijing, China high speed rail network covers most part of China, stretch further to the far southern bottom of Guangzhou, extend east to Shanghai and north to Harbin. Till December, 2018, there are 34 of China’s 37 provinces and regions connected by the high speed rail. You can check the latest network map of China High Speed Rail as below.

Beijing Shanghai High Speed Rail Line

Beijing Shanghai high speed rail is 1318 kilometers connecting the major two destinations of China - Beijing and Shanghai. There are 43 G trains running between Beijing South Railway Station and Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station. G trains will take you about 5 to 6 hours and the scheduled leaving time of G trains is from 06:44 to 19:00. The D trains are running between Beijing South Railway Station and Shanghai Railway Station. D trains are overnight trains, taking you about 12 hours.

Beijing Xian high speed rail is 1216 kilometers, well linking the capital of China – Beijing with the ancient capital – Xian. Beijing West Railway Station and Xian North Railway Station are served as the high speed train stations. There are 14 pairs of G trains running between Beijing and Xian. Beijing to Xian G trains are available during 07:52~18:03 while Xian to Beijing G trains are available during 06:05~18:55. It takes only 4.5~6 hours for the train journey.

Beijing Guangzhou High Speed Rail Line

Beijing Guangzhou (Jinghu) high speed railway is a very important north-south high speed rail line in China. With a total length of 2273 kilometers, Beijing Guangzhou high speed rail starts from Beijing and spans five provinces Hebei, Henan, Hubei, Hunan and Guangdong Province. Beijing West Railway Station and Guangzhou South Railway Station are served as high speed train station. There are 5 G trains running the schedule from 07:40 to 13:05 which takes about 8~10 hours.

Beijing Harbin high speed railway is connecting Beijing with Harbin in Heilongjiang Province. With a total length of 1249 kilometers, Beijing Harbin high speed rail passes four provinces including Hebei, Liaoning, Jilin and Heilongjiang, and two municipalities including Beijing and Tianjin. It is the high speed railway linking the Northeast China with North China. Every day, there are four pairs of D trains and two pairs of G trains running between Beijing and Harbin. It runs at an average speed of 200km/h~350km/h. The train travel is around 7-8 hours.

With a total length of 971 kilometers, Beijing Fuzhou high speed rail is the railway linking Beijing with Fuzhou. It starts from Beijing South Railway Station through Beijing Shanghai high speed railway line with cities Tianjin, Jinan, Qufu, Tai’an on the rail, and links with Bengbu Railway Station and continues through Hefei and Huangshan in Anhui Province, Shangrao and Wuyuan in Jiangxi Province, Wuyishan, Nanping and Fuzhou in Fujian Province. It needs around 8 hours for the train travel between Beijing and Fuzhou.

Shanghai Hangzhou (Huhang) High Speed Rail is a high speed rail line liking Shanghai with Hangzhou. With a total distance of 201 kilometers, it runs at an average speed of 300-350 km/h, taking 1 hour for Shanghai Hangzhou travel. There are more than 100 pairs of G trains and D trains running daily between the two cities, making the rail journey as easy as bus ride. The high speed train stations include Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station, Shanghai Railway Station, Hangzhou East Railway Station and Hangzhou Railway Station.

Lanzhou Xinjiang High Speed Rail Line

With a total length of 1776 kilometers, Lanxin (Lanzhou-Xinjiang) High Speed Rail Line, also known as Lanzhou-Urumqi High Speed Railway is a high speed rail in northwestern China from Lanzhou in Gansu province to Urumqi in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region. It is the first long-distance high speed railway for exploration along ancient Silk Road. There are three daily D trains running between Lanzhou and Urumqi which takes about 11.5 hours. Lanzhou West Railway Station and Urumqi South Railway Station are served as the high speed train stations on the route.

Zhengzhou Xian High Speed Rail Line

Zhengzhou Xian High Speed Railway, also known as Zhengxi Passenger Line, is a high speed railway connecting Henan Province and Shaanxi Province. Both G trains and D trains are available between Zhengzhou and Xian. There are more G trains than D trains for this route. Moreover, it takes about 2~2.5 hours by taking G trains, while 3 hours for taking D trains. It is recommended to take the faster G trains for Zhengzhou Xian travel. Zhengzhou East Railway Station and Xian North Railway Station are served as the high speed train stations.

With a total length of 857 kilometers, this rail passes three provinces, including 207.5 km in Guangdong Province, 348.5 km in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and 301 km in Guizhou Province. There are 13 daily D trains running between Guiyang and Guangzhou during the daytime. It runs at an average speed of 250 km/h that the travel time between Guiyang and Guangzhou is about 5 hours.

With a length of 307 kilometers, Chongqing Chengdu high speed railway links Chongqing with Chengdu. Every day, there are 16 pairs of D trains running between Chongqing and Chengdu, taking 2~2.5 hours. Chongqing North Railway Station, Chengdu East Railway Station and Chengdu Railway Station are served as the high speed train stations. G trains are expected to open in the end of 2015, and at that time the travel time between Chongqing and Chengdu is shorten to 1 hour.

Datong Xian high speed railway, also known as Daxi high speed rail, is the rail line connecting Datong with Xian. With a total length of 859 kilometers, this rail line passes 706 kilometers in Shanxi Province and 153 kilometers in Shaanxi Province. At present, the section of Datong-Taiyuan is under construction and travelers can take high speed train (D Trains) running between Taiyuan and Xian. It only needs 3 hours. After the complete construction of Datong Xian high speed railway, the travel time between Datong and Xian is only 5 hours.

is there a high speed rail from chengdu to kunming, if yes how much is the fare and time table, the distant between two cities

Thanks for your question. I’m sorry to tell that there isn’t any high speed trains running between Chengdu and Kunming at present. There are 6 daily K-trains available including K853(Departs: 08:34, Duration: 22h), K1139(10:29, 22.5h), K113(13:30, 18.5h), K145(14:28, 19h), K165(14:57, 19.5h), and K1501(17:07, 17:5h). The fare is about 140 RMB for Hard Seats, 275.5 RMB for Hard Sleeper and about 400 RMB for Soft Sleeper. The distance is about 1130 km. You can also choose direct flights which are frequent and time-saving.
