3 Days Dujiangyan Tour with Panda Volunteer & Six Arts Experience

Full Itinerary Day by day (Can Be Customized)

Day 1 Mount Qingcheng & Jiezi Ancient Town (L)

In the morning, take 1.5 hours' driving to Mount Qingcheng (Front Mountain), the birthplace of Taoism! In 142 CE the philosopher Zhang Ling founded the doctrine of Chinese Taoism here. Most of the essential elements of Taoism culture are embodied in the teachings of Taoism that emanated from the temples that were subsequently built on the mountain during the Jin and Tang dynasties. In this afternoon, the first temple you are going to visit is Jianfu Palace built in 730 in Tang Dynasty. Walk into the holy palace to know many Taoism celebrities and appreciate the famous couplet regarded as “The First of Mount Qingcheng”. Then, enjoy the short boat experience across Yuecheng Lake which lying quietly at the middle of the mountain. Take the 5-minute Buyun Cableway up to the mountain. Next is a relaxing walk to the mountain top, and stop to visit Shangqing Palace for a deep understanding about Laozi, a famous ancient Chinese philosopher and the reputed author of the Tao Te Ching. Continue your walking to Laojun Pavilion situated at the highest peak of Mount Qingcheng (1,260 meters). This pavilion rises 33 meters in nine layers, from a square base symbolizing the Earth to a circular top symbolizing the round sky. Getting into the pavilion, you can view a huge statue of Laozi riding a water buffalo and get the breathtaking panoramic of the whole mountain. After the enjoyable time on the top, return via the same way you come. 

In this afternoon, head to Jiezi Ancient Town which is reputed as the Back Garden of Mount Qingcheng and the hometown of the Ladle Poet – Tang Qiu in late Tang Dynasty. Stroll along the well-preserved old streets, explore Qing-dynasty Ziku Pagoda, appreciate millennium gingko trees and relax yourselves on the bank of Weijiang River…

After the relaxing exploration, return back to Dujiangyan City.

Day 2 Dujiangyan Panda Base Volunteer (B, L)

Today you will head for Dujiangyan Panda Base to fulfill your lifetime panda volunteer work from 8: 30 to 16:00.

There are more than 40 giant pandas and 5 red pandas in Dujiangyan Panda Base. During this one-day panda volunteer program, you’ll experience some activities including honorary keepers to clean up bamboos, pick up droppings, wash the enclosures, observe and understand the panda’s status and living conditions; prepare food for the pandas and also experience the fun of making the “Panda’s Cake”; understand panda’s feeding habits; watch a panda documentary that shows scientific facts about pandas, to understand how humans protect them, and how we may live in harmony with them; plant bamboos and trees, as well as set up nametags and some more interesting and meaningful activities. After the panda volunteer activities, you’ll receive an official certificate from CCRCGP that proves your love for giant pandas, as well as souvenirs, like a panda badge, a panda T-shirt or a panda club magazine.

After this tour, drive to your hotel in Dujiangyan City.

Please Note:

1. The above arrangements will be adjusted according to the specific situations.

2. Dujiangyan Panda Base can accept up to 20 volunteers in one day at the age between 10 and 70. Being a volunteer, you should apply it a week in advance with your Application Form and Health Examination Form (valid medical certificate and signature which could apply it in your county or in China).

Day 3 Confucius Temple & Dujiangyan Irrigation System (B, L)

In this morning, your guide will escort you to Dujiangyan Confucius Temple - the only living Confucius Temple with a combination of temple and academy where travelers can experience traditional Six Arts - “Rites”, “Music”, “Archery”, “Charioteering”, “Calligraphy” and “Mathematics”. Dress yourselves in Han-style clothes and begin your exploration. Learn about the great Confucius and Six Arts in Six Arts Exhibition Rooms after watch archery show, take Four-worship to Confucius in front of Dacheng Hall, visit Old Chengdu Model and know some Fengshui about architecture, catch the interesting moment to practice stone-rubbing, practice calligraphy and learn some Chinese words expressing in different styles. You won’t miss the chance to practice archery under the guidance of the experienced masters. During this 3-hour experience, you learn, feel and touch Confucius’ life 2500 years ago.

After Six Arts experience, you’ll pay a visit to Dujiangyan Irrigation System, a 2000 year-old living world heritage to solve problems of diverting water without the use of dams. The system is still working to irrigate Chengdu Plain and it’s the real reason why Chengdu is called “the Land of Abundance”. Visit the three main parts of the weir woks controlling the water from the upper valley of the Minjiang River including Yuzui Bypass Dike, Feishayan Floodgate, Baopingkou Diversion Passage, and be amazed by the wisdom of ancient Chinese. After getting to know the theory of system, extend to the nearby Erwang Temple to meet Li Bing and and his son who constructed this ecological engineering feat around 256 BC. 

After this tour, drive back to Chengdu airport / train stations for your next destination. Service ends!

Please Note:

1. If you want to do some Taichi practice and join in the Taichi lovers, you should get to Confucius Temple early around 07:00~08:00 in the morning.

2. Special cultural activities are arranged for family with kids. It will be more interesting if your group is with two people or above.

3. Instead of doing Six Arts, you can choose to visit Confucius Temple only and if you like, you can try single activity of Six Arts and experience on your own. Just tell us your likes.

1. This price is for one person, based on a group of 2 adults sharing one standard double-bed room in 4-star hotel and traveling with our private tour in low seasons.

This is a very short customised arrangement during which the China border is not fully opened yet.

China Discovery charges a premium though, but it delivered without fail.

The VOA is very new to even the custom officers who were on duty when I cleared the immigration check at Shenzhen as well as the HK side. I must say that the agent did his professional service by always on the call to allow on-site changes of my arrival time because immigration clearance was so unpredictable. I can be assured that someone is just outside the arrival hall to pick me up and, I could tell the immigration officer that my local contact person is just waiting outside to pick me once I am cleared with this new procedure.

It is always safer to have a local contact to guide you and make arrangements for your local transfer when language ( Cantonese instead of Mandarin) is a problem in China .
