Every day, there are more than 170 bullet trains running between Hangzhou and major cities of China like Shanghai, Beijing, Suzhou, Xian, Nanjing, Wuhan, Chengdu, Changsha, and Nanchang, etc. It takes around 1 hour to get to Shanghai from Hangzhou, 1.5 hours to Suzhou, 2 hours to Huangshan, 4 hours to Beijing, and 7-8 hours to Xi’an and 4.5-5 hours to Wuhan, etc. There are many train stations in Hangzhou and Hangzhou East Railway Station is the most frequently used high speed train station. Besides, there are also high-speed train stops at Hangzhou Railway Station and Hangzhou South Railway Station.

Railway Stations: Shanghai / Shanghai Hongqiao (上海/上海虹桥) <-> Hangzhou / Hangzhou East (杭州/杭州东)

Distance: 144km (90 miles)

Duration: 45 minutes ~ 1 hour 40 minutes

The best way to travel between Hangzhou and Shanghai is by high speed train. It is recommended that you could take a 5 to 6 days Shanghai-Hangzhou-Suzhou trip by high speed train. The Shanghai-Hangzhou High-Speed Railway line is 144 km in length and designed at a speed of 350 km/h. It shortened travel time between the two cities to about 70 minutes compared with normal trains. Every day, there are about 115 G-trains and nearly 20 D-trains running between Hangzhou (either Hangzhou East or Hangzhou Railway Station) and Shanghai (Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station and Shanghai Railway Station), available from 06:00 to 21:30. For 45 minutes, some G-trains can take you from Hangzhou to Shanghai. By a D-train, you can also arrive within 2 hours.
