3 Days Mount Wutai Buddhist Pilgrimage Tour

Sacred Buddhist Mountain

1

This is the classic Buddhist pilgrimage tour to Mount Wutai, UNESCO World Heritage Site which has been a sacred Buddhist site for both Zen Buddhism and Tibetan Buddhism since the 5th century. During this 3 Days Buddhist Pilgrimage Tour, you will have plenty of opportunities to worship the Lord Buddha and master Manjusri Bodhisattva as you will not only visit the most iconic temples, but also take the famous Da Chaotai (Big Kora) to the sacred and beautiful Five Terraces.

We have rich experience in organizing Buddhism tours to not only Mount Wutai but also Mount Emei, Mount Putuo and other sacred Buddhist sites. In August 2019, China Discovery is honored to create a tailor-made 7 days Mount Wutaishan Buddhist Pilgrimage Tour for Lee G and her Buddhist friends from Singapore, Malaysia and China in total 31 ppl including 4 Tibetan monks. During their 7 Days Mount Wutai Buddhist trip, they finished both the Da Chaotai (Big Kora) and Xiao Chaotai (Small Kora) successfully. Day 2 Wutaishan Five Terraces Worshiping (B, L)

Today, you are going to worship the Five Terraces where the five incarnations of Manjusri Bodhisattva (Intelligence, Immaculateness, Innocence, Lion Roar, and Wisdom) meditate.

Take the early tourist bus to East Terrace (2795m). At the summit of the terrace sits Wanghai Temple (Watching Sea Temple) where you can worship the Intelligence Manjusri. A far-reaching view is rewarded for visitors to East Terrace. On the clear days, you can even see East China Sea. Next, hop on a tourist bus to next worshiping site - North Terrace. With an altitude of 3061, the North Terrace is the highest peak in Mount Wutai and reputed as the “Ridge of North China”. Worship the Immaculateness Manjusri in Lingying Temple and pray for luck and health in Wuye Temple on North Terrace, then take tourist bus to Central Terrace (2894m). This peak is known for Yanjiao Temple which is believed to be the site where the master Manjusri Bodhisattva used to teach Buddhism. Spend some time worshiping the Innocence Manjusri, then move on to West Terrace by tourist bus. The West Terrace is also known as Hanging Moon Peak, literally meaning the best location to enjoy bright moon. At the top of the terrace sits the Falei Temple where you can worship the Lion Roar Manjusri. Take a tourist bus to the last worshiping site of today - South Terrace which is the ashram of Wisdom Manjusri. It also provides amazing scenery of grasslands and flowers as well as flocks of sheep and cattle.

Lastly, take tourist back to Taihuai Town. Have a good rest.

High altitude tips: the Five Terraces are all located at high plateaus over 2500 meters. You should prepare well to prevent from high altitude sickness. Avoid strenuous activities like running and jumping and bring some oxygen for emergency use.

Weather and dressing tips: The best time to visit Mount Wutai is from May to September when the temperatures are neither too high nor too low. Otherwise, it might be too cold in the mountain area. The weather on the five terraces is very changeable. You'd better bring extra layers and umbrella/raincoat as always. Some of the Terraces may be unreachable by sightseeing bus during winter days due to snowfall and ice. Your tour guide will adjust your itinerary accordingly.

- Shuxiang Temple (Temple of Manjushri’s Statue) was established in East Jin Dynasty (AD 317~420). It houses the biggest statue of Manjusri Bodhisattva which is nearly 10 meters high. It used to be visited by many ancient emperors and queens.

- Xiantong Temple is the largest as well as the oldest temple in Mount Wutai. Its Bronze Hall, built in 1610 and made of 50,000 kg bronze, is one of the best preserved bronze halls in China. Most of the biggest Buddhist events and ceremonies are usually held here.
