It operates many high speed trains to different major cities in China, including Guilin - a picturesque city with the world’s finest scenery. At present, there is one high speed train running from Shanghai to Guilin each day. It departs from Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station at about 10:00 and arrives at nearly 19:00 at Guilin North Railway Station. The whole high speed train journey costs almost 9 hours. Apart from the high speed train, there are a few normal trains from Shanghai to Guilin as well, but all of them are overnight trains taking 17 ~ 24.5 hours.
The high speed rail from Shanghai to Guilin is one section of Shanghai Nanning High Speed Railway. It is 1,602 kilometers (995 miles) long, passing through 3 provinces – Zhejiang, Jiangxi and Hunan. There are many cities you can pay a visit to, including Hangzhou, Shangrao, Changsha, etc. Hangzhou is just 1 hour’s high speed train journey away from Shanghai and you can enjoy beautiful West Lake and explore the rich culture, like silk culture, tea culture and food culture. During your Shanghai Guilin High Speed Train experience, you will stop in 18 midway train stations, including Hangzhou East (杭州东), Nanchang West (南昌西), Changsha South (长沙南) and some other stations.
