Day 1 Taiyuan Arrival & Taiyuan City Tour

Welcome to Taiyuan, the capital of Shanxi province! Upon arrival, the local guide will meet you at the airport or train station.

You will firstly pay an educational visit to Shanxi Museum which enjoys a total collection of more than 500,000 pieces. Rambling in the seven historical & cultural exhibits and five artistic ones, you can thoroughly explore the history of Shanxi from Paleolithic age to modern times as well as its brilliant culture of Buddhism, opera, business and architectures. The most valuable treasures contain Bird-shaped Zun (Wine Vessel) of Jin Marquis, Painted Pottery Pot, Jade Group of the Wife of Jin Marquis, Three-color Glazed Pottery Censer with the Pattern of Lotus Seedpod and Lion, etc.

Next, turn to the Coal Museum of China, the only national-level coal museum. Nicely divided into several sections, the exhibition halls with vivid scenes display the different types of coal, the coal information and past mining practice. More than that, you can experience the working environment of coal workers in the simulated undermine.

After that, move forward to Twin Pagoda Temple, officially known as Yongzuo Temple. It is famous for the two gorgeous brick pagodas which are the tallest set of twin pagodas in China. Dating back to Ming Dynasty (1368~1644), the two pagodas show a strong antique flavor. If you travel Twin Pagoda Temple in April and May, beautiful peony and cloves can be savored. Some of the peony flowers are said to have been planted during Ming Dynasty.

Day 2 City Tour & Taiyuan Departure (B)

After breakfast, your guide and driver will pick you at your hotel. The only activity today is to visit Jinci Temple – the top historic site in Taiiyuan. It was firstly built to commemorate Tang Shuyu, the founder of Jin State (1033 B.C. - 376 B.C.) and his mother and then became an imperial garden where religious rites and sporting contests were held. Stepping into this sprawling complex, you will admire the charming natural landscape as well as historical relics like featured architectures, elegant murals and colored sculptures. Sacred Mother Hall is the highlight of whole temple, featuring in elegantly-decorated pillars. Besides this building, you can get awed by the Zhou Cypress which has been growing at an angle of about 30 degrees for the last 900 years (now supported by a tree next to it).

After the tour, transfer back to Taiyuan city and be escorted to the airport or train station to next destination.

1. This price is for one person, based on a group of 2 adults sharing one standard double-bed room in 4-star hotel and traveling with our private tour in low seasons.
2. This price is subject to change according your traveling season, group size, hotel class, change of activities in your itinerary and possible fluctuation of currency exchange rate. If you want a lower price, you can get more people to join you, or use economy class hotels.
3. This price is only valid to March 31, 2023.
4. Reference exchange rate of USD 1=RMB 6.85. The final quote is based on current exchange rate. It may change according to the currency fluctuation, while the RMB quotation will be remained the same.

There will be some meals excluded in your itinerary as you like, and your private guide will be delighted to give you some suggestions and take you to the local restaurants to taste like Beijing Roast Duck, Xian Dumpling Dinner, Sichuan Hotpot, etc., if you are interested in local food tasting.

Hi Leo,

This is a very short customised arrangement during which the China border is not fully opened yet.

China Discovery charges a premium though, but it delivered without fail.

The VOA is very new to even the custom officers who were on duty when I cleared the immigration check at Shenzhen as well as the HK side. I must say that the agent did his professional service by always on the call to allow on-site changes of my arrival time because immigration clearance was so unpredictable. I can be assured that someone is just outside the arrival hall to pick me up and, I could tell the immigration officer that my local contact person is just waiting outside to pick me once I am cleared with this new procedure.

It is always safer to have a local contact to guide you and make arrangements for your local transfer when language ( Cantonese instead of Mandarin) is a problem in China .
