Tracy Tan - Our Experienced Travel Advisor
Hi, I am Tracy from China Discovery. Just like all of you I love traveling. A simple reason on me is to see different things, to meet different people, and to have different experiences. Travelling opens up my eyes and makes me a tolerant person to understand all the differences in the world. This is how I chose my job.
For 3 years in this job, I share what I know with my clients, at the mean times, I listen. And I gradually realized I am not only doing a job to live life, but I have a responsibility to be as a bridge to help foreign people come to China and to understand what is real China.
Keep traveling, sharing and learning… I wish to strong my skill on tour arrangement, provide more information, and to do the best for my clients. China may be totally different from their country, but through a tour, I wish they could know more about our culture, history, people, villages and cities… I wish they all get what they want in their tour in China; I wish they all have joyful time during China!
Also I thank all my clients for their kindness and trust. One thing happened this year impress me a lot - I arranged a 34 days tour for one of my client Mr. Kostadin who comes from Australia and only 16 days from the first email I received from him until payment done! I thank Mr. Kostadin for his big trust and I told myself to ensure him a satisfied tour. During Mr. Kostadin’s tour, he wrote to me “Even if it feels like I have been in China for long time, hearing that came time for leaving makes me bit sad.” I understood. As at the end of his tour, he wrote “As everything in life my trip to China came to end. It was great, so many things I saw. I feel I have been in China for a year. I had very good time. You were great and made everything to go smooth. Well organized.” I was glad and I am. I know I accomplished this responsibility; of course, my team’s contribution cannot go unnoticed!
Dear sir and madam, I sincerely invite you come to China! I would be glad to share and listen and to arrange a satisfied tour for you! I wish a tour in China could be a wonderful journey in your life!

Hi Tracy!
Kunming and Pu'er were very nice. The hotels were good and somehow individual. Coffee and Tea plant age very interesting (tour/explanation could have been more in detail and much longer). Rice terraces good to see. We did some hiking, which was very good. The places for visiting sunrise / sunset not to be recommended - not special and much too crowded. Xishuangbana: elephants valley was interesting. The villages, zoo, king palace was from my point of view not to be recommended. Too touristic / standard program, nothing special. Here I would have liked something more individual, more nature, more culture and real history... The same for the hotel in Xishuangbana - this was not to be recommended.
The driver and guide, both have been very good! Organisation also very good.

They had a great trip and they said the guide was super friendly and helpful, they are very satisfied but with that they did say that the last day was indeed too ‘relaxing’. They wanted to see more and to explore more interesting sites.
At the end if you count the whole tour they had a great experience and they are very happy, thank you.

Dear Tracy,
Happy 2023. I arrived safe back to Beijing yesterday afternoon. I had an excellent holiday in Yunnan province. This was due to a well organised program by you/China Discovery and to the two very professional guides - Jackie and Andy. I feel I know much more about Yunnan province now. And that China has so much to offer besides Beijing where I live. I will tell others here in Beijing about your professional travel agency.
Thank you again for the well organised tour!

Hi Tracy,
So far so good! Just the program for the second day is not updated, as it’s almost impossible to do it one day. The cruise took us almost 5 hours, the sightseeing is not existing any more, the bicycle we did for 1 hour.. I decided to go to Impression show for an extra price. The 2 hotels were extraordinarily and very recommended. The car and driver were very good, safe and comfortable. The guide was also good, seems he was not very enthusiastic.. prefered long conversation with the driver instead of long explanation about the sights and route - but was ok!

The trip was well organized and the different places visited were exactly what I was looking for. The lack of a car that remained with us was one point that caused a few headaches simply because we had to carry everything with us at all time. The guide was very nice and knowledgeable but her English was very hard to understand at time but it was not a major issue.

Hi Tracy:
Here is my evaluation of the cruise on Century Glory:
Ship and facilities: Overall I was impressed with the design. Unlike almost all of the other Yangtze cruise ships, the interiors are clean and modern, reflecting a fusion of modern Chinese and European aesthetics. The different coloured carpets on each floor were a nice touch. Overall, the ship has modern, but warm, feel to it with well-thought-out spaces such as the Panorama Cafe at the front of the ship, which had full-height wrap-around glass walls and an inviting open deck at the font of the ship which is protected by high glass walls. The open spaces at the top and rear of the ship are also notable. Unlike other ships on the river, the Century Glory was designed to maximize open spaces with generous and comfortable seating. Even when it was raining, the large outdoor sofas (note these are not cheap plastic white chairs, but rather quite comfortable rattan-style sofas with fabric cushions) on the Sun Deck could still be used thanks to the canopies that covered the deck. The VIP Panorama restaurant offered an impressive array of local Chinese and Western dishes of high quality, with various seating options and floor-to-ceiling windows offering excellent scenic views. The cabin, on Deck 6, was quite large and the bathroom had two sinks, which is unusual even on ocean-going cruise ships. Bedding, excellent.
Service: I had no problems with the service, in fact, it was far better than I had expected. As one of 20 foreigners on the ship (out of 500), we were well taken care of and all senior staff knew our names. Although I speak Chinese, English was widely spoken amongst the senior hotel staff of the ship. The Cruise Director had previously worked for Royal Caribbean, and it was evident that the high attention to guest relations--which that company is known for--was something he brought back to Century Cruise Lines. Any problem was solved very quickly.
Shore excursions: I am not a person who does many shore excursions, but the ones I did do were well-organized and efficient. The guides spoke good English and had deep historical knowledge of the sites. Embarkation/disembarkation was smooth.
Overall I would rate the experience on the ship as excellent. I have been on many ocean cruises before, and Century Glory certainly ranks near the top in terms of service, comfort and attention to detail. I highly recommend it.
My only suggestion would be that there be some sort of room service menu available, so you can order food to your cabin in case you don't feel like going to the restaurant or are hungry between meals.
Tracy - do you think you could send me an e-fapiao for the trip? Thanks!

Dear Tracy,
My apologies for the late response but thank you, I arrived back home safely. I can not say thank you enough for the wonderful trip the agency has organized for us. I do have some recommendations as well as a feedback on its way. Please allow me to take a few more days to send it to you as I am preparing for another upcoming holiday right now. Thank you for your consistent messages and updates, it was truly an amazing tripas promised my feedback will be sent later this week.
Below is my feedback about the Yunnan trip:
The agency did a very good job at organizing our 7 day group travel through Yunnan. From the beginning I was in touch with an agent (Tracy) who told me all that was to know and answered my inquiries prior the trip. Every location had a different guide-all of them with great knowledge and a personal approach to guiding. They were truly amazing! On Day 3 in Dali the itinerary included a bike trip around Erhai Lake but I am not much of a biker. As I indicated this to our guide (Aeron) he arranged a mini bus ride on one part of the lake then walked with me while the group was cycling. Everyone was looked after, if anything was requested our guides did the best to arrange or work around our wishes. Great team!!
A couple of recommendations: the tour starts in Kunming (we spent two nights there) however of all locations its the least interesting. I assume this was largely due to it being the capital/easy flights in etc. but I think our group would have much rather preferred spending two nights in Lijiang and start the tour from there and then finish in Kunming. Besides the Stone Forest (which was spectacular).
There isn’t much to see there (the local market visit could be skipped as its not anything special that other cities wouldn’t have). This way we could have had more time in either Lijiang/ShangriLa/Dali and less time in a big city with not much atmosphere. If the tour would be switched around then Day 7 could be the train ride from Dali to Kunming, lunch and then a visit to the Stone Forest. We could have had two extra nights on one of the above beautiful locations.
In Dali I felt day 1 with the train right/Three Pagodas/Erhai Lake/evening old town tour was too packed as opposed to day 2 when we visited the embroidery institute, tie-dye family etc then a 5hrs bus ride to ShangriLa. Maybe the two days itinerary could have been mixed so that we could spend more time at the Three Pagodas/lake as these were more time consuming then the next day’s visits. Besides day 2 includes a lot of sitting on the bus so it would be nice to do one of the more active activities before hand(maybe the biking around the lake).
These recommendations could make your offered trip even better and it would cater for more needs of foreign tourists. However I can truly only say good things about the entire week and I am glad to have traveled with your team. Thank you!

Hi Tracy,
I stayed longer in lijiang. Still here now.
The tour was WONDERFUL.
We just have a suggestion. Myself and everyone I spoke with feels that it will be better if….
The tour is one night In Kunming. After the stone forest take the train to Dali on the same afternoon.
We would all like more time in Dali than Kunming. Or more time in shangri-La.
We all felt 2 nights in Kunming was maybe too much. We wanted more time in in Dali and shangri-La.
Just a suggestion.
We all said we will use your company again and recommend it to others.
Yes. It's going very well, thank you.

Hi Tracy,
Sure. We have been very happy that everything worked out, given the constant changes in requirements. Our guide Tashi did everything possible to make it a smooth trip, he reached out to his contacts and other tour guides proactively to find out about potential new changes/requirements, also where to get Covid Tests and would follow-up with the hospitals while we were at our hotel to get the results in order to not loose time the next morning. He also is so knowledgeable about all the sights, speaks great English and overall is such a nice and humble person. I would totally recommend him to any group visiting Tibet. Our driver was also very good. Calm and safe, would also fully recommend to others.
Sights are all great, there is nothing to add/change. The route is straight forward and doesn't allow for much alterations anyway.
Hotels in Shigatse was much better than expected! Same goes for the monastery guest hosue at EBC. We had a double room, while expecting to share room with other people. The only thing I would recommend to add is that persons who are picky should maybe bring their own bed sheet to cover the existing heating blanket/mattress, as they were not 100% clean. We are easy with such things, but I know other opinions. Dinner was also great up there (hotpot).
Restaurants on the way were all good except of one between Lhatse and EBC, which had bad service and mediocre "Western" and Indian food. As I'll other foreigners also were brought there, maybe it's a thing for groups visiting from outside China when there is no pandemic. We were better off with local food, noodle shops etc.

Dear Tracy,
We came back from our wonderful Yunnan trip yesterday, so I thought I would just give you some detailed feedback. My expectation is to use you whenever we go travelling in China as long as your prices are competitive, so I think it will benefit us both to give you feedback each time.
First of all I would like to say, that this is one of the best trips we ever had as a family - we really enjoyed it.
Dali
Nancy is the best guide we have had in China so far - she is so sweet and really good in explaning our different sightseeing options and telling relevant interesting stories. She also gives advice to us on the day we did not have anything scheduled.
The hotel in Dali was nice, ok breakfast and pool - although a little cold.
We enjoyed both the cycling trip and the Cangshan Mountain. The trip to Shibao Mountain we felt was a little rushed. We would have preferred to have more time here and done some hiking in the beautiful surroundings. It felt like a lot of transportation for a very short walk.
Shaxi
This city is fantastic - and we loved the hotel. The breakfast was perfect, the best breakfast we had at any hotel in China.
Lijiang
Evan was ok as a guide. I wrote to him to get a restaurant recommendation before coming to Lijiang, and his first question was which hotel we stay at. On the day we were going to the Tiger Leaping Gorge hike, he was not really informed about our programme it seemed, and wanted to cut two hours of the hike. I really appreciate when the guides know our itinerary, so we do not have to give him information.
As our first two days in Lijiang was on out own, it would have been nice with just a 2 minutes introduction from his side, when we met at the hotel. For example that there are both a Shuhe old town and a Lijiang Old Town. No one at the hotel spoke a word English, so it was difficult for us to figure out how to best spend the days.
The day in the snow mountain was fantastic - but I had to ask for the yak meadow. I would have liked him to explain to me the options at the snow mountain, so I could make a decision based on that, not my own research. Our friends who came two days later, also travelling with China Discovery, went all the way to the gletcher. We did not even know that was an option.
The hotel in Lijiang was the best on our trip - nice rooms, pool and gym. And I have to say their service is AMAZING! I got the wechat of one of the staff, and he helped us with everything, I do not have his English name, but can send his Chinese to you on WeChat. He should really be recognized for his efforts! The only thing about this hotel was, that their breakfast is really bad. It seemed strange because this hotel is so beautiful and amazing, but their breakfast seems to belong to a one star hotel. I have to say again, that their service is really good - so when we complained they made scramble eggs for us and something that resembled bacon. So the staff did everything they could. But a hotel like that should have better breakfast - maybe they should visit the hotel in Shaxi.
Tiger Leaping Gorge
So everything on this trip was amazing!!!!! We loved the hike and the hotel was like a small piece of paradise. The room, the pool the spa - it was just perfect. Also we really liked Pema, our guide.
One comment is that our friends, who did the hike two days later, had their suitcases brought all the way to this hotel. Why were we not offered this? I know we have paid the same price for the trip.
Shangri-La
The two hikes and visit to the monestary was very good, Pema had a good feeling of what our family liked and he was very sweet to our kids.
We did not really like the hotel that much. Actually I prefer the often much more charming boutique hotels. You properly chose it because of the pool, which I know I wanted. But the water at the pool was 13 degrees - so not really something we could use.
So that was all the feedback I had. I hope it is useful to you! I will send you the name of the employee at the Lijiang hotel, he deserves extra credit.
Kind regards.
Signe

Hello Tracy!
Thank you for the good arrangement on our trip.
Let see your questions:
- Guide
(Chongqing and Yichang):
- The guides was good and hade good knowledge about the subject/area.
- The food was really good (Lunch).
- Cruise.
- The ship standard ok.
- The
included restaurant to crowded and the food was “little too much Chines”.
- But this was easy solved, we upgrade to the “wester restaurant” to get our own table and less people.
- I think you shall recommend western people to go for that from the beginning
- The included sighting was good and the guides was good, had good knowledge about the subject/area.
- Over all good cruise.
- Hotels.
- Both hotels really good standard.
- Good location on both hotels.
Overall we are really satisfied with the trip you have arranged for us also this time.
It’s so convenient when you have arranged the trip with pic up from air port and deliver to the next destination with some interesting things to look on between.
So now the big question is where to go next time?
I have at least one more year in China (hopefully more)

Hi Tracy,
Yes, we are back in Guangzhou where it is much warmer than Beijing!
Feedback:
Hotels – both hotels were excellent; the staff were very helpful, breakfast was very nice and the rooms clean and well maintained. The hotel in Beijing just won as they upgraded our room when we arrived to a King double.
Guides/Drivers: Edward was good in Harbin, even though there is obviously less to talk about than if he was in Beijing. He was always on time, very helpful with buying tickets, showing us around and he took us to a great restaurant for our evening meal in the city. The driver (sorry, can’t remember his name) had a good car and drove very carefully in icy conditions.
Kai really made the trip for us. He was very knowledgeable, kept us very interested in all of the history that Beijing has and told an excellent story – on top of being very organised, very helpful with the health codes and so on. Mr Jao the driver was punctual, very helpful and as a team they worked very well. I would recommend them to any of my friends who were going to Beijing.
Activities: it was more difficult to fill two days in Harbin, especially as it was so cold. The snow sculptures were impressive, the ice sculpture park truly amazing and the tiger park (which I was a bit worried about) was more acceptable than other animal attractions I have been too (and there were lots of tigers!). Apart from that, we enjoyed the walk down the ‘Russian street’ but the cathedral was a little underwhelming and we visited the old part of town at a very quiet time of day.
On the other hand we could easily have spent more time in Beijing; Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City and the Summer Palace were places where we could have spent much more time exploring, but the highlight was the Great Wall which was fabulous. If we ever get back to Beijing we will definitely go to another stretch for a longer walk. Sadly for the tourism industry, but good for us, it was nice to not have too many people there as well.
Overall we had a great time; everything was well organised, pick ups were punctual, we got to see some of the top sights in China and would definitely consider going back to Beijing in the future. Thanks for all your efforts as well (flight cancellations, letting us know about the situation in Beijing), everything went really smoothly and we will definitely consider getting in touch with you again about future trips.
Hope that you have a prosperous New Year
Best regards

Hi Tracy,
Thank-you for your email and information on how to approach preventative measures it is very much appreciated.
Hopefully you in China are coming out of the worst of the impact of the virus now which is small comfort for all the families effected by it. We in Europe now are heading into a very dark place with us where China was back in mid-January – with our Governments now realising they have to undertake very drastic action with their people.
We in the UK are just today moving to business where they can work from home - with big events and gatherings now cancelled. We are about 1-2 weeks we think behind where Spain and Italy find themselves - with them now entering total lockdown.
We are very grateful for how you in China have lead and showed us the way to handle the virus and see how the world can and has to learn form this on how to internationally together handle future situations better together.
For the future we would still love to travel and see China - but that is now not likely for at least 6 months I think – our Government in the UK now talking of the virus being “active” for at least the next 6 to 9 months….
Best regards

Dear Tracy,
How lovely to hear from you again, and thank you for your thoughtful attachment of Covid-19 Precautions. They will be useful.
How have you been since the outbreak in China? – I do hope you and your family and colleagues have managed to escape and are well. You were all very much in our thoughts. The school my son-in-law was teaching at near Dalian did not re-open after the Chinese New Year, so he and my daughter and grandson went to Kuala Lumpur for 2 weeks then back to Australia. He has been teaching by Correspondence all this time - not easy with students all over China and around the world. However the school hopes to reopen physically at the end of March so Glenn returned to China and the school last Saturday for 2 weeks quarantine. Kerry and Ethan are staying in Australia until the end of the Summer holidays and hopefully will return to China then. Your country has been so strict and we hope that the downturn in cases continues to be effective and everything else returns to normal for you soon.
We feel so much for those in the Travel industry who are the hardest hit. Is your company still operating? Do you still have work? What did you do during the outbreak. Our airlines and Travel agents are just beginning to feel it in the last two weeks. Our largest travel agency Flight Centre is very hard hit, not to mention the cruise ships. Our small town is dependent on tourism – we have dolphin and whale-watching boats, with busloads of visitors mainly from China and Korea. These are no longer coming and only one boat goes out each day.
We are so pleased that we were able to have the wonderful trip to Harbin that you organised for us - great memories! Glenn’s mother did not get to China - had to cancel the day before leaving Australia.
Our movement restrictions have only just started properly today – we have about 290 cases of Covid-19 in Australia to date.. Anyone returning from overseas has to be quarantined for 2 weeks. I think this is just the beginning for us, however to date we are much better off than many European countries. Congregations of people are being limited, and people are learning to be very careful. They are not closing the schools or universities yet, unless a case of Covid- 19 is found in them. Only 3 to date. It will be a day-to-day situation, as you will understand. We have a 90-year old friend who left Spain on 10 March heading for Australia through Vietnam and then transiting in Singapore. We wonder if he will get here (Singapore is stopping even transitting) and if he does he will have to go into quarantine! We have advised him to consider postponing the remainder of his trip as he may not be able to return to Spain later.
Again, thank you for your thoughtful email and do let us know how you are faring.
With very best wishes

Hope you are well and surviving this crisis! I think China is a few weeks ahead of the US in dealing with this virus. We are just now beginning to experience the restrictions and "lock-downs". My husband and I were due to leave for Argentina and Chile this week but the trip was canceled by the tour company, wisely I think. I was in Thailand and Vietnam through January and watched the preparations for Chinese New year. Felt so badly for China when the virus ruined the holiday.
I hope that we will be finished with the restrictions by the summer and I will be able to make the trip. Meantime please take good care of your health. You are young, so better off than us old people!
Please stay in touch. I will keep you updated on events here. Just now, it is chaos!

Hi Tracy,
Great to hear from you! We have some diving and a cruise planned the last week of April to first week of May to Aruba, Curacao and Bonaire in the Caribbean which we hope is not cancelled. We are now completing a two week ski vacation in the local mountains, and we have gotten a good work out. Just a couple days left and we'll consider winter over. So far, so good here...we hope to be healthy and strong when the virus visits us. It is not smallpox, polio, or ebola but some challenge is presented. You know best about that...how is it affecting people you know? Panic is never productive, but, challenges must be faced, especially when unavoidable. I would be interested in how you and your friends are coping with coronavirus, perhaps I can learn from you. One thing I really like about Chinese culture and society is their interest in learning from others, which I hope to do the same with you.
Remember, our house is your house if you ever come to the USA. We are booked this year as we have another two week dive vacation planned at St Kitts in the Caribbean in November. Hope to show my wife some Wudang Tai Chi next time I visit, and my son is interested in Tibet, especially Mt Everest.

Dear Tracy,
We just arrived home in Australia last night and I wanted to write to you and let you know how much we enjoyed our Harbin trip. All the arrangements went perfectly to your plan.
Grace was a superb guide – provided so much local and historical information which we all enjoyed (including our 10 year old grandson who was learning much of the material at school in Dalian). The ice and snow festivals were unbelievable and being a little early in the festival meant that we could see some of the exhibits under construction and they were not so crowded. We enjoyed the historical parts of the city and the ice swimmers. The two lunches Grace took us to were the best meals we had in China – superb!
We were very grateful that at the end Grace unexpectedly obtained a station pass and helped us find a place for our luggage on the train (being eight of us and from overseas we had more than normal).
We will have no hesitation in recommending China Discovery, and yours and Grace’s service to any friends who enquire.

She accompanied us in Tungxi to stroll the famous old street , pointed and explained to us interesting and famous shops, instead of letting us to stroll around on our own. We were most satisfied with her service.

worse.
Otherwise the crew, the boat, the food and the attractions and spectacles were
good, and we spent a good time during the cruise.
We enjoyed the cruise very much in general.
I would say also that the time to visit the shibao pagoda was really too short (less than 2 hours), because we wanted to spend more time on shore to visit the shops, or to make more pictures.
So we hope that our remarks will help to make the cruise better;

A quick answer is that the tour met our expectations. We were able to see what we would like to see. Overall, all three of us were satisfied with our tour. We will not hesitate to work with you in future tours of China.
I will provide more feedback using the questionnaire you provided with the itinerary. Please give me a couple of days.
Thank you again for making our trip comfortable and enjoyable.
Best regards.

Dear Ms. Tracy,
Want to say THANK YOU arranging a nice trip.
Sorry, I’m a little bit late but unfortunately my Coughing put me into bed, longer as expected.
Tour in Xian and PEK was arranged perfectly.
Knowledge of guides was good to very good.
Best Emilie? In PEK-, Pronounce excellent also explanations, all drivers were carefully driving.
No complaints on train n flights - super punctual!!
Totally impressed by Xian soldiers n historic museum.
Can’t believe what Chinese had created some 1000 yrs. ago! They were sooooo advanced, Europe was still using light n smoke for signals, while Chinese used mobile/smartphone already...hehehe!
Was really a pity to cancel last day, but my condition was soooo worse, so better kept a rest for night flight.
Pandas I had seen in MAC already, and silk prod I know from my job as textile purch manager.
I’ll tell friends about ChinaDiscovery, they would be in good hands. I don’t know yet, when I start next trip to Guilin, place I’m very interested.
Now I prepare for my xmas holidays in OMAN-Salalah, nice sun and sea Hilton Resort.
Wishing you all the best, take good care - Sending you lovely seasons greetings.

Hello Tracy,
Have now been back in Australia for 2 weeks and thought it was time to send you my trip review.
To start I would like to say thank you for organising what could only be describe as a trip of a lifetime.
China Discovery and yourself provided a tour which exceeded all my expectations and made the 24 days a treat to the senses showing use a scenic and modern China I didn't believe existed.
The guides and transport you provided at every location proved beyond doubt that we had chosen the best way to see China. sing the trains especially the bullet trains to travel was also a great decision as we seen great scenery even when transfer between cities, the experience of travelling on the soft seats trains was also worth the effort and time.
As you could expect when booking with a travel company over the internet we did have some concerns but your quick and professional responses removed any fears especially with all the changes we went through as we built our tour. On meeting the China Discovery representative at Shanghai it quickly settled any small concerns we had.
I would strongly recommend the tour itinerary we settled on as it provided access to a large variety of historic sites, world class scenery and China's modern cities all with well informed guides, comfortable vehicles and everything running like clockwork. The small party of 4 created a personal tour with great flexibility without any delays of a larger group tour.
It was also special to get to meet you in Chengdu, thank you again for your great help.
Will forward my review shortly.

Dear Tracy Tan,
We´ve had a wonderful week.
Daniel was a lovely guide. He was nice, very helpful and attentive. He also knows a lot about the region and I have learned a lot. I couldn´t ask for a better guide. I would definitely recommend him.
The only thing I would change about the tour would be less nights in Guilin and one or two more nights in Yangshuo.
Thank you for asking and for the wonderful tour.

Hi Tracy,
We are safely back in the UK having had a wonderful trip to parts of China, organised by your company, and also your extended care of us as we tried to get to Hong Kong during Typhoon Mangkhut! We enjoyed our shortened visit to HK despite missing our son due to the typhoon delays.
You asked for comments of our trip and the organisation by your company, but first I apologise for not giving a comments sheet back re our visit to Guilin. This was because we did not see our fantastic guide "Smiley" later in our stay whilst waiting for the typhoon to move away. Please let her know she was great - we did leave some money for her and the driver with our stand-in guide Stephen. I hope she and the driver got it.
First of all you, Tracy, have been an excellent organizer and responder to my questions and when things got difficult with onward travel and extra hotel nights in Guilin the team in Chengdu and Guilin worked well together.
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Xian, Chengdu and Guilin.
I am not sure the train from Beijing to Xian was the best choice after a long flight from UK via Amsterdam and into Beijing. It made for a very long journey time and a flight to Xian might have been better as we were already at Beijing airport.
All the guides and drivers were excellent in each city. We learnt a lot from the guides and they all had good English and good personalities.
We did have one problem on arrival in Chengdu by train from Xian as the guide was not waiting where we had expected to be met. We were lucky that a train/station employee was able to help us and contact you and for you to alert the guide. Chengdu station has multiple exits and we should have been met at the platform arrival exit or told which other exit to go to.
In general everything worked smoothly and the quality of hotels was also good. My only negative would be the hotel in Guilin, which did not offer food one night because they had a conference and a wedding, although they had promised us food after 8pm. At 8:10pm we were told we could not after all have food and were told to go out into town!
The hotels in Xian and especially Chengdu were very good.
Overall we were very happy with chinadiscovery.com and we would certainly recommend the company and its ability to organise a private tour with excellent guides.
Lastly the final thing you organised was the transfer from Shenzhen to my son's house in Stanley on Hong Kong Island. Mr Liu was waiting with a very nice van at the right exit from the train station and we were soon on our way dodging the fallen trees and the clear-up vehicles. We arrived quickly and safely.
Thank you for organising this great trip for us.

Hi Tracy
Just want to thank you very much for organizing such a wonderful holiday for us. Everything went according to plan and our guides were all excellent. A special thank you to Laura in Shanghai who ensured that we got a connecting flight to Hong Kong when our original flight was delayed. The highlights, of course, were the pandas followed by the terracotta warriors. The weather was great with only one day of rain in Chengdu. We will certainly recommend your company to our friends and relatives and hope that we may return to China one day.

Dear Tracy,
After spending a week in Vietnam and a few days in Singapore we are back in Switzerland.
Thank you again for organising our tours and pick up while we were in China. The service you and your company provided was excellent and I would recommend you to anyone I know going to China.
You were extremely responsive in getting back to by e-mail and putting together the itinerary and the people on the ground who took us on the tours were very friendly, spoke good English, competent and punctual.
Overall I was positively surprised by your service and glad that I found your company via Tripadvisor.
In terms of the tours the Great Wall and the visit to the Panda base were the highlights. It was impressive to see the Great Wall and the nice surroundings and the whole family liked the Panda base and the kids enjoyed the photos with the pandas. In addition, both places were easy to access and not that crowded i.e. no queues. The visit to the 798 art district was also very enjoyable.
My wife and I also liked Qing Cheng mountain but were overwhelmed by the crowds and the queues. It was I I depressive to see the amount of people getting on the shuttle busses and standing in line for the cable car. We had a very tight schedule so it was only possible for us to go to Qing Cheng in the afternoon - if I were to recommend this trip to friends I would probably tell them to get up very early and try to beat the crowds.
Overall as said it was an excellent trip and I would use your company again and would particularly like to thank you for the very good organization.
Kind regards

Hi Tracy,
My apologies in not getting this review to you sooner.
Thank you for all of your help organizing our trip to China. My cousin and I had a wonderful time. We really appreciated the surprise souvenirs you sent us too! Below is a review for you to use. I do not have Trip Advisor, but you can use this on your website or post if you'd like.
REVIEW:
My cousin and I recently returned home to the USA from a two week private tour of China (June 2018), where we visited Beijing, Zhangjiajie, Xi'an, Chengdu, Guilin, and Longsheng. We were skeptical at first about using a foreign company to plan our trip and exchange currency. We tried to look up reviews and found limited information. We were pleasantly surprised at the level of attention and customer service provided by China Discovery, our agent Tracy, and each individual tour guide.
China Discovery has many travel agents and connections throughout the country. Using this company helped alleviate the stress of researching and planning a trip in a location that we had never visited with a language we were unfamiliar with. They were very reliable for our trip.
Tracy Tan was wonderful!! We were so grateful that she was our travel agent. From the start of our trip with the initial inquiry email to the very end on our travels home, she was quick with her replies and tailored the trip to our needs. Even after the trip was completely organized, she shuffled around the cities on our tour because it was very important to us to have extra time to visit Zhangjiajie. Her knowledge of the areas, things to do, and travel in between cities were very useful and thoughtfully executed. The itinerary she compiled was catered to our needs based on activities we enjoy to help make the most out of our experience in China. We wanted to visit some less popular tourist sights and get a good feel for the beauty of the land and culture. We explained what cities we wanted to visit, what places we wanted to see, and things we wanted to avoid, and Tracy took care to plan the trip of a lifetime.
The individual tour guides that traveled around with us in each city were also great. Each of them were very factual and professional. They also helped with our inquiries for activities and travels during our time outside of the daily scheduled tours. Randy in Beijing had a lot of knowledge about the history of the country. Timo in Xi'an was friendly, insightful, and engaging about Chinese history. Nancy in Chengu was also well informed and thoughtful. Chin in Guilin/Longsheng was resourceful. All of the tour guides were hard working and sensible in planning our daily trips, places to eat, and using their exposure to tourism to help translate not only the language, but also the understanding of the content and culture.
I would highly recommend China Discovery to any of my friends and family who are considering a trip to China. I have encouraged others to visit China after our recent tour and am excited to bring my husband back some day. Thank you China Discovery, Tracy Tan, and all of our tour guides for an amazing trip!

Dear Tracy,
Before I start my review can I thank you very much for planning and organising our holiday to China. We had a marvellous, though hectic, time - an amazing holiday overall.
1. The travel consultant -you Tracy- were excellent and you answered very quickly all the issues and questions I had about our holiday.
2. The tour arrangements were first class - the driver and guide were always punctual and prepared to help us on anything we needed, especially with the organising of a wheelchair -very professional, always courteous and friendly. The itinerary was not followed in parts as the guides suggested a different order of visiting the sites which made it more time effective. As I had no criteria to base our grading of driver/guide on the sheet we received at the end of each city stay, I feel I was unfair in grading Mark in Beijing as only good, as we later noticed he was very similar to Jonny and Helen, so he should be given a 5 instead of the 4. The hotels in all cities were excellent, though we did miss at times some Western cuisine at breakfast but we were in China!!! The quality of the lunches provided varied from adequate in Beijing to over -indulgence in Shanghai where it was impossible to eat it all!!!
However, the only disappointing part for us was our visit to Beijing Hutongs, where it was arranged on the Sunday and the shops in the area were closed and we were also bungled into a back corner of a very small room to have lunch away from others; the rickshaw ride wasn't interesting as the area was quite plain, and if I knew all this I would not have included it in the itinerary. Likewise the Peking Duck dinner was really disappointing in the quality of the dish and as such we would not have booked it as an optional extra. However, the Tang Palace Dance Show was worth every minute. We particularly liked the evening/night snacks from 10.00pm in the Narada Hotel in Shanghai - but frankly we very rarely ate after the lunch on most days!! The tour we found quite tiring especially our first full day in Beijing so in some ways perhaps an extra free day when arriving could be an idea (but our ages were also a factor on why we found it exhausting). The guides perhaps could have provided more depth of knowledge/explanation on some of the places we visited rather than us asking questions all the time - perhaps 4/5 minutes on the historical background of the site and its significance should be given on our walkabout. Similarly an account of daily life/routine in China would have been useful too - though background reading from ourselves would not have gone amiss!
3 & 4.Your company is thoroughly professional and I would certainly recommend your company to other people who would be interested in visiting China on a private tour and I will certainly recommend your services to all my friends.
5. My only suggestion is that any European who wants to book a tour with your company they should be precise and exact on everything they want in the holiday. We were very pleased with everything about our holiday but some people may prefer, for example, to stay in Western -style hotel chains rather than Chinese ones, but in so doing I fell they would miss some aspects of being in China.
6. Yes you can use my comments in promotional material but sorry as we are a rather private couple we don't tend to share our photos in the public domain.
7. Any potential customers (within reason) can contact me about a tour with your company.
Thanks again for a wonderful holiday which will always be in our memories - we might even return someday.

Hello Tracy,
it’s no problem I was intending to drop you a note.
First of all the guides who met us from the train at Yichang, and then took us from the boat to the airport at Chongqing were exceptional. Both times they were on time, knowledgeable about the area and very helpful including assisting us right onto the boat and then helping us to check in at the airport.
The crew on the boat were also excellent, especially Rebecca, Christina and Maggie but all were friendly and very helpful. I told the Captain his crew are a credit to him (I hope it translated well!)
The boat itself was very clean. Although maybe not as luxurious as some of the other boats it seemed to be a bit smaller which means easier to get on and off etc.
I am very glad that we upgraded 2 decks. That meant we ate our meals and had access at other times to the executive lounge which was much nicer than the main restaurant, the meals were table service and house wine, beer and soda drinks were included. It was also nice being on a higher deck for the views etc and Wi-fi is also included. I would recommend that anyone considering this cruise takes up that offer.
It seems that the cruise is slightly different now that the docking point has been moved from Yichang upstream past the dam. That means that the first excursion is also from the boat dock and the boat does not depart until the night time of the 2nd day. I think you should make that clear. It seems that all the other western travellers took the optional excursion on a boat through the dam lift. We went on the bus tour of the dam with a group of Chinese people who treated us as honoured guests and the guide made special efforts to keep us involved. However you might want to make clear to western travellers that it is a possibility.
The other two excursions were also good, especially the boat through the gorges.
The other thing you may want to make clear is that there are quite a lot of steps to climb and walking to embark and disembark the boat at each end and for the excursions so guests need to have a reasonable level of mobility.
Hope that is helpful, I will definately come to you in future if we consider a future trip.
Regards
Barry

Just out of interest I noticed on our itinerary that when we were at Disney it stated that lunch was included on both days but as we were there by ourselves we didn't get lunch. Were we charged for lunch on those days?
1. Is your travel consultant of our company fast enough to answer your E-mail and patient enough to answer your questions? Tracy Tan was very efficient and fast in responding to my emails.
2. How do you comment your tour arrangements? The arrangements were very good.
3. Are you willing to recommend our service to your people who also have an interest to visit China? Yes
4. Your general opinion on us? Very helpful, good service provided.
5. Do you have any suggestions on improving our services? One of the guides who showed us around didn’t have very good English so it was difficult to understand what he was saying. Is their English ability tested?
6. Can we use your comments of our service, the photos or other images that you took on the tour for our websites, brochures, marketing and publicity? If yes, could you please send us some of your photos by E-mail? Yes
7. We sometimes have requests from potential customers who would like to inquire from or our ex-customers.

Hi Tracy,
Back home in Yangon we have nearly defrosted – man it was cold in China.
Just a few thoughts for your information bank – by the way are you really based in China itself – something I read suggested some agencies were based in LA, USA?
We greatly appreciated the services of all the guides – Amanda was a great start in Yichang specially as she had to coordinate us meeting up with our son.
The cruise worked well for us – relaxing and introduced us to the cold gradually. The locks were closed at this time – would have been really exciting to go through them in the ship. The activity level on the ship was a little lazy – maybe age-group oriented but I think they could do more traditional exercise sessions etc. even for us 60s types.
On to Chongching – good guidance there although if the itinerary was more detailed Josh would have made sure his drone was powered up ready to go – a few places like that if there was more detail – we are going to a large park etc.
Young Kimmy was excellent in Xian – brilliant to have a young man with good English and interested in the history of the nation.
The train trip was a highlight – although it was getting colder and colder – Kimmy made good suggestions as to where to buy extra layers and gloves etc. before we left Xian.
The Beijing itinerary was the one that ended up being changed quite significantly so worth bearing in mind for future travelers that the Forbidden City is always closed on Mondays. Please make more mention of the hotel being close to the Temple of Heaven since google maps is a no no. Our day out at the wall was brilliant – once again if we had known more detail of the walking spaces and cable cars etc Josh may have taken his drone out. For our purposes the Summer Palace visit is best on the way to the airport. If we had known the lake was a venue for ice-skating Josh may have brought his brother’s ice skates with him as well.
Also since google maps is a no no some more information about local shopping near the hotel in Beijing would be good. We arrived close to 10pm without having had a meal on the train – hotel restaurant and coffee shop closed as were all in the area – only option was the little convenient store – he did well in chocolate and noodles that night!
So nothing major or complaints just thought to write while these things were fresh in our minds.
Thanks for your assistance and I will not hesitate to recommend your services to others wanting a well-organized, comfortable, well-priced holiday in China.
Regards
Ruth

We enjoyed our trip to China very much - thank you for organising it very well.
Eric, our Beijing guide, was outstanding. His detailed knowledge of history was impressive and he was able to answer all our questions - we asked a lot! We will be recommending Eric to our friends. Eric also gave us good, practical advice about drinking water, meals, toilets and safety.
Our Beijing driver, Mr. John, was the best of our three drivers. He made it comfortable for us in the car.
Beijing was a highlight of the trip (because of Eric) and we plan to visit it again to learn more about its history.
The Crowne Plaza Beijing Wangfujing was good - this includes the room and the breakfasts.
Our Xi'an guide, Kimi, was friendly and young. He explained the terracotta warriors well. We thought Xian was a beautiful, impressive city. We would like to visit it again.
The Xi’an Sofitel International Hotel was the best hotel we stayed in. The room was very big and comfortable and the breakfasts were very high quality. We will recommend this hotel to our friends.
In Shanghai we were impressed with the city’s prosperity and energy. Laura was our guide. Laura has been working as a guide for many years and her style was not as energetic and fresh as Eric’s. The driver in Shanghai was very friendly, but his driving was less comfortable for us as passengers.
The Howard Johnson Plaza Hotel had large comfortable rooms. The breakfasts in this hotel were disappointing and low standard. We would not recommend this hotel to our friends.
I hope this helps.

Dear Tracy,
I am well, thank you.
We had a fantastic trip and it was nice to meet you in Chengdu. The country was fantastic with wonderful scenery, fantastic culture and lovely people. Everest was awesome. The train journey was fun too.
There were a couple of issues however. We did not get the Cooking experience as, according to our guide, it was no longer on offer.
And the Thangka painting experience was not an experience-just a quick visit to a painting studio to see 2 artists at work.
We changed our last day in Tibet to go to Ganden Monastery instead of Namtso Lake as we decided we had seen Qinghai Lake and Yamdrok Lake and we did not want another 10 hours driving. Ganden Monastery was super and we did the kora walk around it which we very much enjoyed-the scenery is spectacular. We did get a refund from the tour company and they were very flexible when we wished to change.
You will recall I took some time to decide whether we wanted to stay in the tents at Everest Base Camp or Rongbuk Monastery guesthouse. Rongbuk is clearly the better option and I’m glad we chose that.
Thank you for organizing a wonderful very memorable trip.

Dear Ms Tracy Tan,
My tour in Tibet was wonderful, indeed. All went well. People that pick me up from/to the airport were very kind. The lady that picked me up at the airport could not be better, as in addition for her natural kindness, she could explain a lot about Tibet. The drivers that brought me to the airport were also very kind, but not able to speak English (not a problem for me, though).
Finally, the main guide has a strong knowledge about Tibet, in particular, the history of the monasteries and the Potala Palace. So, I was very happy with my trip. Bless the day in which I tried to find a tour to Tibet:-)
Thank you very much for all your efforts and to make this trip possible for me.
Best wishes,
Helena

Hi Tracy,
I'm good thank you. My tour to Tibet was very nice and everything went as planned. I'm very happy with the hotel and location of the hotel in Lhasa. And I'm very happy with the tour guide being Tibetan. She was very knowledgeable and arranged our visits to the monestaries and temples at the best times with fewest tourist. All in all a very good trip.
Best regards

Hello Tracy,
you asked me for a review of our Yangtze cruise.
Over all it was a very nice tour. Especially the staff was
friendly and very helpful. The cleanliness in the cabin was very good.
Unfortunately, the pool was in the cellar of the ship and cost extra, which is unusual for a 5 star ship.
Also you could not relax on the sun deck in swimwear. This seems to be a common practice in China and is outside the scope of your influence
The land excursions were well organized and very informative.
Thanks again for the beautiful tour and a heartfelt thanks to the crew
Best regards
Klaus

Hi Tracy,
The trip into Tibet was wonderful. I'm currently in southern China enjoying the Li river. I will leave China probably around the 18th and go to Bangladesh and then back over to India.

- Traci,
Greetings Tracy,
I had a great time and the arrangements you made were perfect. The cruise staff were absolutely amazing! They made me feel like royalty. Seeing that I was the only foreigner and the only English speaking guest on the boat, it made it a very interesting journey. Gracie, the river guide was incredibly kind and helpful. She took care of me and made sure I knew about everything. Thanks for a great trip!

Hi Tracy,
Here are some photos from the cruise.
The files are too large to send all in one email so I will send a few emails with photos.
These photos are of the executive lounge which we could access with the upgraded room, the executive suite, the view looking down from the top of the stairs and the sundeck of the ship.

Hi Tracy,
We would be happy to share our panda tour experience.
I will provide you photos when we return from china on Saturday. We all really enjoyed volunteering and getting a close up experience with the pandas. So far it has been the best part of our trip to china which has included many great experiences. We were very pleased with our tour guide, Eben. He was very informative and helpful.
I would not hesitate to use China Discovery in the future.
Thank you,
Mark

Hi Tracy,
I'm very good thank you.
The cruise was beautiful and very relaxing. We upgraded to the executive suite and enjoyed the use of the executive lounge. Our room was very clean and spacious with excellent views. We also upgraded the restaurant which allowed us our own private table, a quieter restaurant (around 60 people) and we were told better food. Staff were mostly very pleasant and attentive.
While we enjoyed the cruise very much, we had some trouble with food. As I have mentioned, Judy is a vegetarian (no meat or seafood) and Kurtz and I only eat chicken. We were asked for our dietary requirements and informed staff, however staff were not accommodating of our dietary requirements and most of the time we didn't have much food to choose from. I think it would be worthwhile telling other westerners or people with dietary requirements that the food is very much designed for Chinese people (a lot of the food eaten in China is very rarely seen or eaten in western countries).
Despite the trouble with food, the cruise was fantastic and we would highly recommend it to others.
We are going home in just over a week and I will definitely send you some photos soon after.
Kind regards,
Megan

- Hugo,
Dear Tracy.
We were really honored to have visited such an important person's tomb. It is more of a symbolic thing for us to honour such people and have visited such tombs also in Egypt, Mexico and elsewhere.
For example. Likewise the valley of the kings in Egypt, where we are allowed to enter selected tombs for a fee, that creates massive tourism opportunities and interest which in turn funds scientific exploration and conservation. They lined the walls with glass to protect murials.
Helen has amongst other studied museology and have also worked at restoration of key south african historical sites incl groot constantia. We realise that protection of these sites are of immense and utmost national importance. But we sincerely do hope that in future some of these pyramid tomb sites can be developed and made accessible for tourism to promote history and knowledge.
We are indeed honored to experience this tour and are really enjoying it. Kimmy is an excellent tour guide.
Regards
Hugo

- Cristina & Elena,
Hello Tracy
We got yesterday night Madrid after spending a few days in Beijing.
China is a great country and we were delighted to spend fourteen days there. The cruise was de best part of our trip and we enjoyed a lot. Landscape of three Gorges is one the most wonderful places we ever visited in our lives and Dam of Yangtze is amazing. All crew members were nice and guides on shore excursions provided us valuable information about everthing we visited. They teached us few words and songs in Chinese and a lot knowledge about your traditions and way of living.
Thank a lot for helping us making this trip possible with all your help and advices.
Attached you have a picture of us shipping
Best regards
