Xiamen now has one airport, namely Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport. The airport provides international flights to more than 45 international cities and more than 90 domestic cities in China. You can take international flights from Tokyo, Sydney, Singapore, London, Paris, etc. to Xiamen. Also, you can get to Xiamen from Beijing, Shanghai, Xian, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Lanzhou, Kunming, Lijiang, etc. by flight. For visitors coming to Xiamen from international countries and regions, those flights are usually the most popular way to get there. And if you are going to visit Xiamen from those cities on China’s north part, like Beijing and Harbin, taking a flight is also a good option.
Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport is located in Xiamen downtown, about 12~20 kilometers (half an hour or so by car) to those Xiamen ports to catch a ferry to Gulangyu Island. At the airport, you can ride a taxi to get around. In addition, there are also Airport Shuttle Buses for you to travel between the Terminal 3 and Terminal 4 of the airport and the ferry ports (like Lundu Port and Dongdu Port) and train stations (like Xiamen North Railway Station and Xiamen Railway Station), Xiamen University, etc.

Xiamen Train
Currently, Xiamen has 2 main train stations. They are Xiamen Railway Station and Xiamen North Railway Station. Xiamen Railway Station is closer to the main tourist areas in Xiamen, including Gulangyu Island, Nanputuo Temple, Xiamen Botanical Garden, etc. However, Xiamen North Railway Station normally shares more bullet trains. For example, all the trains running between Xiamen and Xiapu only departure from and arrive at Xiamen North Railway Station. And every day, there are 20 high speed trains from Xiamen Railway Station to Fuzhou. But the number will be as high as 60 at Xiamen North Railway Station.
By taking high speed trains, you can get to other tourist cities like Xiamen from Beijing, Shanghai, Xian, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Huangshan, Guilin, Chengdu, etc. Besides, you can travel from Xiamen to the nearby attractions in Fujian, like Xiapu Mudflat, Wuyishan, etc.

Macau to Xiamen
Xiamen is about 536 kilometers northeast of Macau. Similar to Hong Kong, travelers can get to Xiamen from Macau by direct flight or high speed train via Shenzhen.
By Flight (from 1.5 hours)
Since you can travel directly, taking a flight is the most hassle-free way to get from Macau to Xiamen. Macau International Airport has about 3 flights to Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport every afternoon. The flight trip needs about 1.5 hours.

The flight between Huangshan and Xiamen is very limited. Every day, there is only one flight providing service between the two cities. The flight departs from Huangshan Tunxi Airport in the afternoon and then stops at Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport after 1.5 hours or so.
By High Speed Train (from 4.5 hours)
High Speed Trains make it possible to travel from Huangshan to Xiamen in about 4.5~5 hours. All the trains running between them are high speed G-trains. Xiamen Ferry
With its east edge next to sea and its islands surrounded by sea, traveling around Xiamen by ferry is really popular, especially when it comes to Gulangyu Island, the world-class tourist island in Xiamen that can only be reached by ferry. Plus the close direct distance to Taiwan Island, Xiamen Taiwan Ferry is also popular.
Xiamen to Gulangyu Island Ferry
For visitors, you can catch a ferry from only one of the three ports in Xiamen to Gulangyu Island, including Xiamen International Cruise Terminal (厦门邮轮中心厦鼓码头), or called Dongdu Port and Xiagu Port, Songgu Port (嵩鼓码头) and Lundu Port (轮渡码头). And at the Gulangyu Island side, there are 2 ports - Sanqiutian Port and Neicuoao Port for you to choose. About 4 ferry lines are available between these ports, including 3 day lines and one night line. It takes about 7~20 minutes by ferry.
Xiamen to Taiwan Ferry
Direct ferry service between Xiamen and Taiwan is also available. Normally, the ferries run between Xiamen International Cruise Center in Xiamen and Keelung/Taichaung in Taiwan. The ferry journey takes about 13.5 hours in total. However, there are no fixed routes and schedules for these ferries. Xiamen has many great cycling routes, including Huandao Road winding along the coast of Xiamen, which is really fantastic and famous. The road measures 45 kilometers in total, and the best part lies on the south and east coast of Xiamen, starting from Xiamen University to Xiamen International Conference and Exhibition Center. While enjoy biking along the road, you will be rewarded with the best coastline, beach and sea view. Hulishan Fortress, Pearl Bay Garden, Baicheng Beach are also located on this part. If you want more cycling experience, you can also go further north from Xiamen International Conference and Exhibition Center to Wutong Lighthouse Park. 2 hours or so are needed for the cycling. And once you feel tired on the way, you can just jump off your bicycle and take leisure breaks at the beaches or squares.

Xiamen enjoys a busy taxi system. You can easily find a taxi to go around Xiamen. Taxi there charges CNY 10 for the first 3 kilometers (1.9 miles), and CNY 2 more for every additional kilometer. If the entire journey exceeds 8 kilometers, CNY 3 instead of CNY 2 is charged for every additional kilometer. During the night hours from 23:00 to 5:00 of next morning, CNY 12 will be changed for the first 3 kilometers, with CNY 2.4 added thereafter.

Taxi in Xiamen
Xiamen Metro
Xiamen now has 2 metro lines in operation, including Line 1 and Line 2. Line 1 runs between Xiamen’s north and south, while the Line 2 connects the west and east. The two lines meet together at Lucuo Station (吕厝站). You can take the Xiamen metro trains to Xiamen North Railway Station and Xiamen International Cruise Terminal. However, there is no metro station near Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport, Xiamen Railway Station, Xiamen University, etc.

Xiamen BRT & City Bus
There are about 9 BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) Lines in Xiamen. Most of the BRT lines run from Xiamen First Pier to Xiamen North Railway Station, Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport, Qianpu, etc. Less time will be wasted when compared the Xiamen BRT and Xiamen City Bus. However, it is still a little bit time-consuming for visitors. For example, about 1 hour more are required from the port to Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport than taxi.
Xiamen also has many city bus lines running in the city. However, the city buses take much more time than taxi and metro.

Gulangyu Island is located in the southwest part of Xiamen. Taking a ferry is now the only way to get there, which takes about 7~20 minutes. There are altogether 4 ferry lines available.

Lundu Port
Location: No.15, Lujiang Road, Siming District, Xiamen (厦门市思明区鹭江道15号,轮渡码头), about 15km and half an hour by car from Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport.

The famous Tulou cluster in Fujian, including Yongding Tulou and Nanjing Tulou, is about 163km and 3 hours from Xiamen downtown by car. Tourists usually travel to Fujian Tulou from Xiamen by private car or high speed train plus local car. By Private Car (from 3 hours)
The best way to get to Fujian Tulou from Xiamen is by private car, and then you can reach the Tulou clusters directly, without further bothers to hire local cars. By High Speed Train plus Car (from 2.5 hours)
The closest high speed railway station to Fujian Tulou cluster is Nanjing Railway Station (南靖站), which is about 69km and 1.5 hours from Tianluokeng Scenic Area of Nanjing Tulou. Every day, there are as many as 17 bullet trains running from Xiamen to Nanjing Railway Station from Xiamen. The train ride needs 0.5~1 hour. The traffic from Nanjing Railway Station to the Tulou cluster is a little bit complex. There are many Tulou at this region, and there is usually a long distance in between each two of them. However, there is no direct bus can take you to each of them. The best way to Tulou from Nanjing Railway Station is also by private car! Local minibus is also available, but it is not really suggested when considering the safe issue and the language barrier.

Xiamen to Wuyi Mountain
The beautiful Wuyi Mountain, or called Wuyishan, is about 485km north of Xiamen. The most popular way to travel from Xiamen to Wuyi Mountain is by bullet train. Every day from 7:00 to 17:00, there are 25 around high speed G-trains running from Xiamen to Wuyishan North Railway Station or Nanpingshi Railway Station near Wuyi Mountain. The train journey needs 3~4 hours. The traveling time is almost the same from Wuyishan North Railway Station and Nanpingshi Railway Station to Wuyi Mountain Scenic Area.
