Where is Qufu Located?
Qufu is wildly known as the “Hometown of the Confucius” with the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage - San Kong (Temple & Cemetery of Confucius and the Kong Family Mansion). It’s a holy cultural destination attracting lots of visitors to sense the profound Confucianism. The city lies in the north of Jining, southwest of Shandong Province, about 530 km (329 mi) from capital Beijing, 740 km (460 mi) from Shanghai and only 150 km (93 mi) from Jinan, 85 km (53 mi) from Mount Tai and 400 km (249 mi) from Qingdao. Get to Qufu by Train
Because Beijing-Shanghai High Speed Railway, Rizhao-Lankao High Speed Railway and Yanzhou-Shijiusuo Railway pass through Qufu, tourists can also conveniently get to Qufu by train. So far, there are high speed trains running to Qufu from Beijing, Shanghai, Xian, Lanzhou, Harbin, Chongqing, Taiyuan, Xiamen, Wuhan, Hangzhou, Shenzhen, Tinajin, and Jinan, Qingdao, Tai’an, Weifang, Yantai, Weihai, Zibo, Linyi, etc. Qufu East Railway Station is the terminal for all high speed trains. Meanwhile, there are some normal trains heading to Qufu Railway Station in Qufu from Rizhao, Heze, Qingdao, Beijing and other cities in Shandong.

Qufu is a small county-level city without airport and Jining Qufu Airport (IATA: JNG, 济宁曲阜机场) is the nearest airport of Qufu, which is situated about 80 km southwest of Qufu and about 35 km, 1 hour’s drive from downtown Jining. Serving as an important air bridge linking Qufu and other parts of China, the airport operates a total 18 air routes with 24 Chinese cities, including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Chengdu, Kunming, Xiamen, Hohhot, Dalian, Qingdao, etc. And direct flight from Beijing to Jining Qufu Airport takes just 1.5 hours, and it takes less than 2 hours from Shanghai, 2.5 hours from Guangzhou and 1.5 hours from Qingdao. If you’re in a tight schedule, or prefer fast air travel, you can fly to Qufu from the connected cities in China.
Note: It is possibly the most time-saving way to Qufu for long-distance travel but train travel is the regular and most recommended way if you leave from Beijing and Qingdao.

Get from Beijing to Qufu
Qufu is about 530 km (329 mi) south of capital Beijing. Travelers can take a high speed train to Qufu from Beijing or fly to Jining first and then transfer from Jining to Qufu
By Flight: There are direct flights flying from Beijing Daxing International Airport (IATA: PKX) to Jining Qufu Airport weekly (on every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday). The air travel is merely 30 minutes short. It takes another 1.5 hours’ transfer from Qufu Airport to Qufu City.
By Train: Each day, Beijing South Railway Station in Beijing sends more than 15 high speed trains to Qufu East Railway Station in Qufu. The high speed trains start from Beijing at 06:30 to 20:00, and the train trip only needs about 2.5 hours. Once arrival, you need nearly 20~30 minutes to get to downtown Qufu and the Temple of Confucius. At the same time, there are a few normal running Beijing to Jinan, costing around 7 to 10 hours.

Get from Shanghai to Qufu
Qufu is about 740 km (460 mi) northwest of Shanghai and can be reached by both flight and train.
By Flight: There is only 1 daily flight from Shanghai to Qufu. It takes off from Shanghai Pudong International Airport (IATA: PVG) at 11:15 and lands in Jining Qufu Airport at 13:05 after nearly 2 hours’ fly.
By Train: There are more than 20 high speed trains departing from Shanghai (Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station & Shanghai Railway Station) to Qufu on a daily basis. The earliest train leaves Shanghai at around 06:00, while the last train is before 18:30. All these high speed trains arrives in Qufu on the same day with a duration of 3 ~ 4 hours.
Tips: Considering the total time will be spent on the traffic and a better travel experience, the high speed train is more recommended than the flight.

Get from Jinan to Qufu
Qufu is situated around 150 km (93 mi) south of Jinan. Taking a high speed train is the best and fastest way to get to Qufu from Jinan, much more convenient than a normal train and private drive. Besides, there is no flight flying between them.
By High Speed Train: Jinan has more than 50 high speed trains to Qufu each day. The trains depart from Jinan between about 06:30 and 22:00, and reach Qufu after 30 to 40 minutes’ ride. There are different departure stations, and you can choose depending on your location. Jinan West Railway Station has the most number of high speed trains to Qufu but Jinan Railway Station enjoy a good location close to downtown (the major sightseeing area & best accommodation places in Jinan).
By Normal Train: Still, there are two normal trains running from Jinan Railway Station to Qufu Railway Station, for about 2.5 hours.

Get from Qingdao to Qufu
Qufu is located about 400 km (249 mi) southwest of Qingdao. And, Qingdao has direct flights and trains to Qufu daily.
By Flight: There is only 1 non-stop flight flying from Qingdao Liuting International Airport (IATA: TAO) to Jining Qufu Airport every day. It starts from Qingdao at 12:45 and gets to Jining Qufu Airport at 14:05 with nearly 1.5 hours’ flying. Since the flight is limited and duration is not extremely short, the flight is not recommended.
By Train: Qingdao delivers about 20 daily high speed trains to Qufu. The trains depart form Qingdao North Railway Station and Qingdao Railway Station from about 06:30 to 18:30, and finally arrive at Qufu East Railway Station in the day.

Get from Mount Tai to Qufu
Mount Tai (or Taishan Mountain) is in Daiyue District, north of Tai’an City, only 85 km (53 mi) north of Qufu. You can get to Qufu from Mount Tai by private drive directly or take train to Qufu from Tai’an City.

By High Speed Train: First, you need spend half an hour transferring from Mount Tai to Tai’an Railway Station to take your high speed train to Qufu. Every day, there are more than 20 high speed trains (all are G trains) running from Tai’an Railway Station to Qufu East Railway Station. The first train leaves at nearly 07:00 in the early morning and the last train departs before 22:30. It takes just 20 minutes.
By Normal Train: Taishan Railway Station, about 15 km (40 minutes’ drive) from Mount Tai provides several normal trains to Qufu as well. The arrival station is Qufu Railway Station and train time is about 1.5~2 hours.

Get from Other Shandong Destinations to Qufu
Taking a high speed train is the most convenient way to travel around Shandong.
Get from Weifang to Qufu: Weifang is about 280 km northeast of Qufu. There are more than 10 high speed trains running from Weifang to Qufu. These trains leave from Weifang Railway Station and Weifang North Railway Station and get to Qufu East Railway Station after around 2.5 hours’ ride. The first train starts from Weifang North Station at 07:30 and the last train starts at Weifang Station at about 20:00.
Get from Yantai to Qufu: Yantai is a coastal city in the northeast of Shandong, about 580 km northeast of Qufu. To get from Yantai to Qufu, you can take the direct afternoon flight flying from Yantai Peilai International Airport (YNT) to Jining Qufu Airport (JNG) on every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. It takes just 1 hour 20 minutes. Or, you can choose from over 5 daily high speed trains. They depart from Yantai South and Yantai Railway Stations with a duration of 4 ~ 4.5 hours.
Get from Weihai to Qufu: Weihai is 650 km far away from Qufu. Weihai has no direct flight getting to Qufu currently. But there are several daily high speed trains departing from Weihai Railway Station between about 08:00 and 17:00. The train trip takes about 4.5 hours. Besides, Weihai dispatches an overnight normal train to Qufu with 10.5 hours’ ride.

Qufu is not too big, so it’s quite easy to get around by car within 1 hour. However, air travelers arriving in Jining will need longer time for transferring to Qufu.

Qufu Railway Station is much closer to downtown than Qufu East Railway Station. It takes just 15 minutes by car from Qufu Station to the city center and Temple of Confucius, while it requires 20 ~ 30 minutes from Qufu East Railway Station.
