Located in the eastern China, Shandong owns a Warm Temperate Monsoon Climate. Its climate features include hot, rainy summer, short spring and autumn, long summer and winter. The annual average temperature of Shandong is about 11℃ ~ 14℃ and the average sunshine is around 2,290~2,890 hours every year. Besides, Shandong’s annual yearly precipitation is between 550 mm to 950 mm, decreases from the southeast coast to northwest inland, and almost 60% to 70% of rains happen in summer season (June to August). Frost-free periods increase from northeast coast to southwest areas, and it’s about 180 days in the Northern and Eastern Shandong and up to 220 days in Southern and Western Shandong.

With an annual temperature of 14.7℃, Jinan has the highest average temperature in Shandong. January (average temperature is below 0℃) is the coldest month in Shandong, and July is the hottest time in inland regions, but east and south coast areas receive highest temperature in the August.

    Summer is hot and rainy in Shandong. Frequently affected by marine monsoon, Shandong gets more rainfalls in summer than other seasons, and the south wind is prevailing in this season. Inland regions reach the hottest time in July but the eastern and southern coast, influenced by ocean climate, get to the highest period in the following August. The average temperature in Shandong during August is between 21.5 and 27.5°C. Summer in Jinan is a little hot than other cities.
    It is always the golden season for swimming and seashore activities, especially from July to August.
